East Renfrewshire is a compact council area on the southern edge of Glasgow, stretching from the suburban communities of Giffnock and Clarkston southward through Newton Mearns to the rural uplands around Eaglesham and Neilston.

The area consistently ranks among the highest in Scotland for school attainment and quality of life, making it one of the most sought-after places to live in the Glasgow area.
