Gladsmuir is a small inland village sitting on the road between Haddington and Musselburgh, surrounded by open agricultural land.
After the Battle of Prestonpans in 1745, wounded soldiers from both sides were brought to Gladsmuir to recover - a detail preserved in the parish records.
