About Independent Financial Advisers
An independent financial adviser (IFA) provides impartial advice on pensions, investments, mortgages, savings and insurance - working for you, not for a bank or product provider.
The 'independent' part matters. Unlike tied advisers who can only recommend products from one company, an IFA can search the whole market to find the best fit for your circumstances - and they are legally required to act in your best interest.
Check that your adviser is registered with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and ask how they charge - some work on a fee basis, others take commission from the products they recommend. Either way, they should be upfront about costs before any work begins.

About Ralston
Ralston is a residential neighbourhood on the north-eastern edge of Paisley, sitting between the town centre and the boundary with Glasgow, with Glasgow Airport lying a short distance to the north.
The area was developed primarily in the 1930s and 1940s as a suburban extension of Paisley and its tree-lined streets, semi-detached houses and generous gardens give it a settled, leafy character that has made it one of the more popular residential areas in the town.
Ralston has its own primary school, a community centre and good access to both Paisley town centre and the retail parks along the Renfrew Road corridor.
Transport links are excellent - Paisley Gilmour Street and Paisley Canal stations are both within reach, the M8 motorway is close and Glasgow Airport is less than two miles away, making Ralston a practical and pleasant base for commuters.
About Renfrewshire
Renfrewshire is a council area in west-central Scotland, lying immediately to the west and south-west of Glasgow on the southern bank of the River Clyde. It covers around 270 square kilometres and has a population of roughly 180,000, making it one of the more densely populated council areas outside the four main cities.
Paisley is the largest town and administrative centre - the fifth-largest settlement in Scotland - with a rich industrial heritage built on thread-making, weaving and the iconic Paisley pattern that took the town's name around the world. The medieval Paisley Abbey, founded in 1163, remains one of the finest monastic churches in Scotland and is believed to be the birthplace of the Stewart royal dynasty.
Beyond Paisley, the landscape varies considerably. The northern strip along the Clyde is low-lying and industrialised, taking in Renfrew, Inchinnan and Erskine. The centre and south-west rise into the Renfrewshire Heights, a belt of rolling farmland and moorland dotted with attractive villages like Lochwinnoch, Kilbarchan, Houston and Bridge of Weir that have a distinctly rural character despite being within easy reach of Glasgow.
Transport links are excellent. Glasgow Airport sits within the council boundary at Abbotsinch, the M8 motorway crosses the area east to west and railway lines connect Paisley, Johnstone and the surrounding towns to Glasgow Central in as little as ten minutes - making Renfrewshire one of the most accessible parts of the Glasgow city region.
