Airdrie is a substantial town in the east of North Lanarkshire, sitting on higher ground about 11 miles east of Glasgow. It has a long history as a market town and burgh, receiving its charter in 1821.

The town centre retains a traditional layout with a handsome main street. A good selection of independent shops sits alongside national retailers.

Airdrie has been connected to Glasgow and Edinburgh by the Airdrie-Bathgate rail link since 2010, making the town one of the best-connected commuter locations in the central belt.

The surrounding area offers attractive countryside, with the Hillend and Caldercruix reservoirs nearby.

North Lanarkshire is a council area in the heart of Scotland's central belt, stretching from the eastern outskirts of Glasgow through a string of towns and former mining communities to the open moorland of the central plateau.

Transport links are excellent, with the M8, M73, M74, and M80 motorways crossing the area and multiple railway lines connecting its towns to Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Stirling — making North Lanarkshire one of the most accessible parts of the central belt.
