About Lochmaben
Lochmaben is a small royal burgh in Annandale, sitting among a cluster of lochs between Dumfries and Lockerbie.
The town is associated with Robert the Bruce, whose family held the lordship of Annandale - the ruins of Lochmaben Castle stand on a promontory on the Castle Loch south of the town.
The Castle Loch is a nature reserve and home to the vendace, one of Britain's rarest freshwater fish, found naturally in only a handful of locations.
Lochmaben has a compact centre with a town hall, local shops and a quiet residential character and sits on the A709 between Dumfries and Lockerbie.
