Ratho is a rural village in west Edinburgh, best known for the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena — one of the largest indoor climbing centres in the world.

The Union Canal runs through the village, and the Bridge Inn on the canal bank is a popular pub and restaurant with boat trips.

Ratho has a primary school, a village hall, and a church, and the surrounding countryside is agricultural land within the city boundary.

The village's position near the Edinburgh city bypass and the M8 junction gives it good road connections despite its rural feel.
